Essentials for quality product photography

Why high-quality photos are compulsory for your brand in 2023.

If you’re describing your brand as luxury, elegant, and timeless and you’re using potato-quality images, you could be leading your audience straight to the exit door.

My role as a stylist and photographer is to help showcase the best version of your product and capture your audience's attention in the most captivating way possible. Although product photography may appear simple, in reality achieving beautiful simplicity is far from easy!

Keep scrolling to understand the essentials for quality product photography.

Consistency.
Consistency across your product imagery is essential for a professional and polished look. Maintain uniformity in lighting, backgrounds and style, especially for e-commerce stores. If you struggle with this, consider scheduling regular shoots with a photographer to keep your content strong and consistent.

Lighting.

Achieving beautiful lighting is paramount. Your products should be flawlessly lit to showcase their best features and evoke a sense of allure. Avoid harsh flashes and shadows that can make your products look less appealing.

Background & Too Many Props.
Embrace minimal, clean backgrounds that allow your products to shine without distractions. When using props, exercise restraint and tastefulness. Props should complement your products, not steal their spotlight! Take an extra two minutes to clear the background and reposition your camera for a clean, professional look – it's worth the effort!

Attention To Detail.
Small details can make or break a customer's decision. Customers notice the little things, so ensure your products are flawless, free from kinks or any imperfections that might raise doubts. (This is also just as important on short-form content such as Facebook & Instagram stories- we’re always watching!)

Angles.
The use of angles is a clear distinction between amateur and professional photography. Positioning your camera at eye level and aligning vertical lines can create a natural and familiar sense. Intentionally using well-balanced angles in photography adds a professional touch to your work.
